How To:
Join a Club Trip
Start by clicking on the trips link
on the menu above. If you've never done so, click on the participant
information links on the page that comes up. You'll find information
on how trips are graded, and lots on planning for and taking part
in a club trip.
Then continue to the Trip Schedule. See if there is anything
that interests you... The schedule ebbs and flows with the
passage of the seasons - that's a fancy way of saying that sometimes,
as the ski season is ending, and the hiking/climbing season is about
to begin (and vice versa) there often aren't a whole lot of trips
listed. Keep checking back - developing each season's schedules
is a continuous process.
If you're interested in joining a trip, simply call or e-mail the
organizer. If you're a member, the rest is up to you and the
organizer. Always remember - it's up to you to know your abilities
and limitations. If you're not sure of the technical skills
or stamina involved on a trip, make sure you discuss it thoroughly
with the organizer, and be honest with him/her - and with yourself.
If you're not a member of the club, no worries - we welcome non-members
to try out a couple of trips before committing to joining.
In addition to the above, it simply means that you'll have to fill
out a waiver form before participating. You'll find the form
here.
If you are able to print and fill out the form before arriving at
the trailhead, it would be much appreciated.
Become an Active Member
There are two ways to become an Active Member. One is to
remain an associate member for two years, and renew for a third.
The other is to take part in two club trips or one club camp.
Then have two Active members sign your membership form, converting
your status to Active as well. It you want to do so between
membership renewals, simply print out the membership form, complete
the Associate to Active section, and submit it to the club.
Remember - only Active Members are eligible to vote
at club meetings. In addition, members must be Active
in order to organize club trips. Speaking of which:
Become a Trip Organizer
If you are an Active Member, we'd love to have you participate
in organizing club trips. More than anything else, it is crucial
to the club's survival that members continue to take a hand in organizing
and assisting with club trips, camps, and instructional programs.
The club is for the members, but also by
the members. Over the years, a core group of people has been
incredibly effective at creating and developing a fantastic selection
of trips for the yearly schedules. It is important that we
continue this work, and the only way to do it is by member participation.
Even if you've never thought about organizing a club trip, please
consider it now. Our climbing chairpersons, executive members,
and other organizers can help with trip ideas, and assist in organization.
To become an organizer, contact the Climbing Chair(s) via e-mail
, by phone (listed in the BCMC Newsletter), or at a monthly meeting.
Save Some Trees
You're now able to receive an e-mail notification when the newest
BCMC Newsletter is posted online. And if you'd like to save
some trees, save the club some postage and printing costs, and build
up good karma, you can also stop receiving the paper copy in the
mail.
Simply log in to the members' area (on the menu above) then click
on "Update Your Member Record" on the main member page.
Your membership information will then come up, and you can set your
newsletter preferences there.
If you'd like to receive both e-mail notification and
paper copies, set both "Newsletter Survey" and "PrintLabel"
to "yes". To turn off either, set them to "no".
Submit a Trip Report and Photos Online
You can now submit trip reports and photos for website viewing
online. Read on for details. The instruction below are
also available as a PDF
file to download and print, if you'd prefer.
Details:
- You must be a logged-in member
- You may only submit reports & photos for a club trip listed
on the trip schedule.
- Due to our new trip schedule, the trip must be from January
2005 or later.
Photos:
- You can submit up to 10 photos. If you have more, or
larger photos that you can't edit yourself, e-mail
the webmaster.
- JPG format only.
- Each photo may be up to about 150 Kb in size.
- Dimensions for the photos should be between 640x480 to 800x600
(or the same size vertically).
- You can add a description for each photo, which would be greatly
appreciated by everyone viewing.
Here's how to do it:
- Log on to the members' area of the website.
- Click on the "Return to BCMC Main Site". Then
click on the "trips" link, and "Continue to Trip
Schedule". If you're properly logged in, there will
be a "welcome" message near the top right, with your
name.
- Click on the "view old trips" link just below the
main menu bar. All club trips with start dates up to and
including the current day are shown, starting with the most recent.
- Find the trip you are going to report on, and click the trip
title. On the resulting page, click on the link near the
bottom saying "File a trip report or upload photos".
Note: this link only shows up if you are logged in.
- Enter a title for the trip - anything that is descriptive of
your experience. (Extra points for pithiness and wit.)
- Enter a report in the large box provided. Please hit "Enter"
twice between paragraphs - it makes it much easier to read!
Even if you're not writing a full trip report, only submitting
photos, please do enter at least a little descriptive text.
Read it over a few times; make sure it's right - we
haven't set up the "update" function, for editing text,
yet.
- If you have photos to upload, select the appropriate number
from the drop down box at the bottom. (Err on the higher
side, if you're not sure how many you'll actually send.
You can leave some of the boxes blank, if you decide not to send
them all.) Then click on the "Submit" button (after
double checking everything!)
- The next page shows you how the report will look, and gives
you the spot to upload photos. For each photo, click on
the "Browse..." button, locate and select the photo
on your computer, and click OK (or however one does the same thing
on an Apple product.) Then click on "Upload Files".
And wait a while...
- If all has gone well, you'll soon see the photos you uploaded,
each with a little box below, in which to enter a description.
Please do... and click "Submit"
- That's it! You're done! You can then click on the
link to view all trip reports, and behold your contribution to
the furtherance of the club, and the edification of its members.
Or just check out some cool photos and stories.
Upload Photos For Use
in the Newsletter or Website
After logging in to the members' area of the website, click on
link number 3: "Upload Photos for Newsletter, Website,
or Calendar". Follow the instructions!
