How To:Join a Club TripStart by clicking on the trips link on the menu above. If you've never done so, click on the participant information links near the top of the page. You'll find information on how trips are graded, and lots on planning for and taking part in a club trip. Then continue down Trip Schedule. See if there is anything that interests you... The schedule ebbs and flows with the passage of the seasons - that's a fancy way of saying that sometimes, as the ski season is ending, and the hiking/climbing season is about to begin (and vice versa) there often aren't a whole lot of trips listed. Keep checking back - developing each season's schedules is a continuous process. If you're interested in joining a trip, simply call or e-mail the organizer. If you're a member, the rest is up to you and the organizer. Always remember - it's up to you to know your abilities and limitations. If you're not sure of the technical skills or stamina involved on a trip, make sure you discuss it thoroughly with the organizer, and be honest with him/her - and with yourself. If you're not a member of the club, no worries - we welcome non-members to try out a couple of trips before committing to joining. In addition to the above, it simply means that you'll have to fill out a waiver form before participating. You'll find the form here. If you are able to print and fill out the form before arriving at the trailhead, it would be much appreciated.
Become an Active MemberThere are two ways to become an Active Member. One is to remain an associate member for two years, and renew for a third. The other is to take part in two club trips or one club camp. Then have two Active members sign your membership form, converting your status to Active as well. It you want to do so between membership renewals, simply print out the membership form, complete the Associate to Active section, and submit it to the club. Remember - only Active Members are eligible to vote at club meetings. In addition, members must be Active in order to organize club trips. Speaking of which:
Become a Trip OrganizerIf you are an Active Member, we'd love to have you participate in organizing club trips. More than anything else, it is crucial to the club's survival that members continue to take a hand in organizing and assisting with club trips, camps, and instructional programs. The club is for the members, but also by the members. Over the years, a core group of people has been incredibly effective at creating and developing a fantastic selection of trips for the yearly schedules. It is important that we continue this work, and the only way to do it is by member participation. Even if you've never thought about organizing a club trip, please consider it now. Our climbing chairpersons, executive members, and other organizers can help with trip ideas, and assist in organization. To become an organizer, contact the Climbing Chair(s) via e-mail , by phone (listed in the BCMC Newsletter), or at a monthly meeting.
Save Some TreesYou're now able to receive an e-mail notification when the newest BCMC Newsletter is posted online. And if you'd like to save some trees, save the club some postage and printing costs, and build up good karma, you can also stop receiving the paper copy in the mail. Simply log in to the members' area (on the menu above) then click on "Update Your Member Record" on the main member page. Your membership information will then come up, and you can set your newsletter preferences there. If you'd like to receive both e-mail notification and paper copies, set both "Newsletter by Email" and "BCMC Newsletter Hard Copy" to "yes". To turn off either, set them to "no".
Upload Trip Reports or Photos For Use in the NewsletterAfter logging in to the members' area of the website, click on the "Upload Photos and Documents for the Editor" link. Follow the instructions...
